Free the Colorado! (And Teach Idiots Conservation)

For decades the Colorado River hasn't reached the sea, due to over consumption of its water. Southwest farmers and cities have abused and consequently annihilated, the flows of the river to a trickle through both poor water use practices and for simple aesthetic pleasure.

Recently an agreement was reached with Mexico to allow pulse flows through the Morelos Dam in an attempt to reinvigorate the delta and to perform an experiment to see if pulse flows would actually help the delta since it used to be a major migratory bird stopping point.

Here's an excellent article produced by the guys at Outside Online on the pulse flows and how they helped not only the delta but the people who live along it as well.

Let's hope that some of the conservation points brought up in the article can be achieved and the Colorado will once again be set free.

Incoming tomorrow, a fishing report from a small mountain stream in Kittitas County and hopefully some photos and no snakebites to go along with it.

Until next time.

Keep fish nervous,
